Gita Assessment app · Last updated: September 19, 2026
The Gita Assessment app ("the app") supports recitation assessment for Bhagavad Gītā students, teachers and assessors. "We" and "us" mean the developer of the app. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Phone number. Used only to sign you in. We send a one-time verification code by SMS (or verify your device silently) through Firebase Authentication.
- Name and role. A program administrator assigns each phone number a role (teacher, assessor, or student) and a display name. You cannot choose or change your own role in the app.
- Student contact details. When an assessor adds a student to a roster, the student's name and an optional phone number are stored so reports can be shared. These are visible to teachers and assessors.
- Assessment records. When an assessor runs a session, we store the chapter, the verses each student recited, the mistakes marked, and the date and time. These records are linked to the student who recited.
- Push notification token. If you allow notifications, we store a device token and your role so we can send program notifications (for example, a new weekly assessment scope, or a teacher alert).
- App settings on your device. A randomly generated identifier stored on your device is used to keep personal preferences. It is not linked to advertising or to other apps.
Information we do not collect
- We do not use advertising or analytics SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not collect your location, photos, or microphone audio. The app reads your device contacts only if you tap "Import from Contacts" and choose a contact; it copies just the name and phone number of that one contact into the student form, and nothing else from your contacts is read or stored.
- We do not sell your information or share it for marketing.
Who can see your information
- Students can see only their own assessment reports. This is enforced by our database security rules, not just hidden in the app.
- Teachers and assessors can see assessment records and rosters for the program.
- Service providers. We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging) to run the app and Apple's Push Notification service to deliver notifications. These providers process data on our behalf.
Children
Many program participants are children. Accounts are created only when a program administrator assigns a role to a phone number; the app has no open self-registration and collects only what is described above. A parent or guardian may contact us at any time to review or delete a child's information.
Retention and deletion
We keep information for as long as a participant is part of the program. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information at any time by emailing us at the address below, and we will act on verified requests promptly.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access is restricted by role using database security rules. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
